The 6th grade Huskies have been hard at work and I just can't wait to share so here's a sneak peek!
The first week of student teaching has quickly come and gone and I have never been more excited, encouraged, and empowered. The staff and students at Jefferson Middle School have been extremely welcoming and I look forward to the next few weeks as a Husky! Of the things that I have learned over the first week is the awareness of how much of teaching is about learning for oneself and building relationships. Teaching is not just about being able to get your students to learn but to also to take learning as a serious component as to who you are as a teacher. The planning, researching, coordinating, and testing that comes with lesson planning keeps you in a constant state of discovery and self assessment. These keep you on your feet whether you are researching ideas or methods to use in a classroom or trying something for yourself realizing its potential impact it could have on your students and their work. Regardless of the reason, being willing to constantly teach not only students but oneself is an integral part to teaching. Relationships are another important aspect of teaching. The first week is important in establishing a relationship with your staff, your students, and your parents. Developing relationships with staff enable you to create connections that could be extremely resourceful as far as developing lessons, assessing classroom management styles, or keeping students engaged. Student-teacher relationships are important in an effective learning environment where efficient learning takes place and everyone feels welcomed and encouraged to do more. Parents like to know that their students are being cared for and engaged in a classroom, thus establishing a relationship with parents gives them reassurance that their students are getting the best out of their education and it also ensure that the hopes you have in your student's learning extends beyond the realm of the classroom. As one week ends, another week begins! There are many exciting things happening in the next few weeks and I hope that you stay tune. Sixth grade is already in the midst of understanding the element of line, the principle of pattern, and art as symbol through inspiration from literature. Seventh and eight grade have learned the benefits of a sketchbook as they review all elements and principles of design as well as create media studies of still life. Sound intriguing? I think so!
Have a great week and...GO HUSKIES! |
