So three AH-Mazing things happened today that I feel were definitely worth mentioning. All of them made me so proud of my amazing DC Comets and extremely happy to be where I am today.
1. Moments are precious and today's favorite had to be during Mrs. Salinas' 3rd grade class. Students are encouraged to help each other while they progress with their projects. This helps to foster a sense of ownership of the information that they learn but also the steps into its creations. Students take responsibility for learning the information and lean on each other for answers and understanding. Today, I managed to catch one of many moments in which 3rd grade students helped to evaluate the progress of each other's work as they tried to reproduce George Seurat's technique of pointillism. (Not only that, but many of students from various 3rd grade classes took it upon themselves to come in later and use a few minutes of their time to get a head start for next week! Go Comets!)

2. I finally have evidence of 6th grades amazing progress on their Harry Potter inspired projects! Students connected with the use of animals as symbols in movies and in various cultures. They determined the animal that would best symbolize them and worked to create an realistic outline. Next students filled/infused their animal spirits with various patterns simple lines and shapes. Up next: a little bit of watercolor (and color theory) for some pizazz!
3. As mentioned before, 5th and 2nd grade students have worked on a collaborative piece inspired by Kandinsky and the book "The Dot", by Peter H. Reynolds. It's taken some time but it's finally ready to go up. Here's a sneak peak!
