Students are wrapping up their international projects which will continue to grace the hall for weeks to come. In the meantime, they have wasted no time getting into the holiday/winter spirit. Check out what 1st, 3rd, and 4th are creating!
Now I know it seems a little hard to believe considering the weather recently, but truth be told: Winter is coming. Tomorrow we enter the first of December and it seems completely appropriate that winter themes start to grace the Delta Center Elementary art room.

Greetings and salutations! As we complete the end of the first trimester and approach the mark of the middle of the school year, it is time to reflect, access, and prepare for the months to come. At Delta Center Elementary, every student utilizes the space within the art room and we go through supplies quickly! If you're looking for a way to help to contribute to the art room please consider the items on the list below. Nothing is too small and any contribution not only helps to enhance the art experience for every student but it is also greatly appreciated by all! Thank you so much for your support and consideration! - Mrs. BellDean

International Week begins November 14th and what a perfect opportunity for the students to discover the amazing experience of art from all over the world (both old and new). Students are learning to identify not only techniques of art as it is used and applied in various cultures, but they are also gaining the chance to increase understanding and find connections with the world around them! Can you guess where in the world art is taking us? All will be reveal in the halls in just a couple of weeks!
There can be a little juggling when it comes to completing projects and getting them displayed. As a new teacher it takes a moment to catch on, but though they may not make it in the halls due to time or other plans, they still deserve recognition. First graders had a blast learning how to be MAD SCIENTISTS with the project below! Not only were they make discoveries by having the chance to investigate how colors mix together in various combinations (as well as get the chance to give these wicked "potions" fun names and powers) but they were also given the chance to be "magicians" as they learned to transform a 2D shape into a 3D form. As a continuation, students were shocked to discover that the fumes from their "potions" were creating interesting effects on the shapes in the art room. Thus, the "Monster Book" came into being as students transformed basic shapes into silly and sometimes "scary" creatures, each with a favorite activity and food! Third graders have had the fun of learning about George Seurat and his pointillism technique; we even got to watch a fun clip from "Artrageous with Nate!" to learn some fun facts about George Seurat! Though this project took longer than expected the students had a blast filling in their hot air balloons with "hundreds" of tiny dots! Students learned how to create dark and light colors based on the proximity of their dots. They also learned to identify how color relates to distance as well as which color group sunrises and sunsets fell in (ask them!).
Art is up in the Delta Center halls! And right on time for Fall Conferences, too! One of the best things about being an art teacher is getting the chance to display student's hard earned work. I have been very fortunate to be allowed the opportunity to not just be able to display a select few, but the chance to have every grade, every class, and every talented student's work proudly hung in the halls.
And the difference it makes! Not only does it help the school feel just a little bit brighter but it has a clear effect on the students as well. If I were to say what is my favorite reason to hang up art, it would be to hear the excitement in students' voices as they point theirs out or recognize that of a friends; the pride (from them and you) as you overhear them explain to a parent, teacher, or friend not just what they did, but what they learned; and the feeling of success they have as they come in ready to tackle the next project. Check out what was displayed in the halls and keep an eye out for what comes next! |
