It is so hard to believe that my student teaching experience is actually over. No one prepares you for how quickly those 16 weeks will fly by. No one can really prepare you for the abundance of information you will learn; the amount of highs and lows you will encounter; the amount of hearts you will touch and that will touch you in return; or the amount of growth you will experience when it all wraps up in the end. I am proud to say that through it all I can most adamantly confirm two things: I was born to teach and I am ready.
There were good days and there were bad days, but never once did I find myself regretting my path. Not once did I not look forward to getting up and doing it all over again. Even now, with it all over, I look forward with anticipation to the day when I have my own classroom, my own set of students, and a new set of creative adventures.
I could not have done it without such amazing support and guidance. Both Jefferson Middle School and Woodcrest Elementary provided excellent learning opportunities for me. The students were fantastic and my hosts, Mrs. Keeley and Mrs. Hall, were amazing. Through their guidance I was able to learn practices I never considered, test out ideas, hone my own skills and more!
Even with such wonderful hosts, I could not grow into the teacher I am today without such talented students. I chose to teach art because I love art, but that in itself is not why I do it. I do it for the students. I teach to watch them grow; to see them make connections; to help guide and support who they chose to be; to watch them make discoveries; and to be inspired by them on a daily basis. Thank you students. Thank you for your time, for your suggestions, for your inspiration. If not for you, I would not be able to stand where I am today.
Have you ever really wondered how well you are doing in the classroom? I found that some of the best advice and insight come from the students themselves...
