Hello, hello! Welcome to a new year here in the Delta Center Elementary art room! We have big plans for the second half of the year. More looks into creative and impactful artists such as Faith Ringgold, Jim Dines, and more. We will dip into the exciting stratosphere of 3D art using both clay and recycled materials. We will also explore new or unusual concepts of art, challenging our perception and thinking by checking out environmental art as well as interesting ideas such as yarn bombing!
As 2017 begins, it didn't take us long to already get started!

Did you know that 2017 starts the year of the Rooster according to the Chinese calender? Though the new year has already begun, official celebration of the Chinese calender does not start until January 28th and is typically filled with family gatherings, firecrackers, well-wishes and lion dances.
Students at Delta Center, have gotten into the spirit with their own New Year projects in honor of the roosters. Third graders are learning to blend with oil crayon and chalk pastels, as well as to create block typography. Fourth graders are having fun creating their very own scratch art with 2017 rooster selfies!

Presented with a wire hanger, knee highs, glue and paint, 6th grade students were given the challenge of guessing their next project. As we usher in 2017, so do we shed light on the answer. Students have had the chance to bend wire and create interesting form. Keep watch as they continue working, gaining an understanding of thinking 3-Dimensionally, learning to work and process information from all angles.
While we wait for the results of such amazing work in progress check out some of these finished "Keep Calm" posters by 6th grade. Students learned about the history of the "Keep Calm" Posters from World War II and had a chance to create their own, including some innovative, self-designed typography!
