Art is more than just creating, it is also about discussion and movement. Some of my favorite moments are taking time out to listen to what my young artist have to say and I find their thoughts truly inspiring. Second grade students began their next art adventure by leading a short discussion. We talked about:
"What is art?"
"What materials do we use to make art?"
"What kinds of things can be art?"
"What is art?"
"What materials do we use to make art?"
"What kinds of things can be art?"
After some insightful discussion, we moved into some practice on drawing the human figure. Who could have thought that mastering the art of stick figures could help us to master the art of drawing people. Students got the chance to pose for the class and for each other while we took turns drawing what we saw. Afterwards, everyone got a chance to take turns posing throughout the room with a fun game of Statue Switch Up!
