Delta Center's Comets have been busy, busy, busy! As we settled into October, students are discovering ways to connect art with the fall season. We are covering everything from pumpkins to apples, from owls to fire flies, and from Van Gogh to Seurat. Check out some of the amazing works below and be sure to explore Delta Center's halls as student work graces every possible surface!!!
First graders completed their ROY.G.BV birds and have moved into fall with pumpkins and sunflowers. We practiced turning wavy and bumpy lines into shapes, mixing colors with paint, and sharpening our cutting skills!
Second graders completed their chance to "out-dot" the fifth graders and will soon see their work in the halls. For their next project they get to use paint for the first time! To clue you in, I will give you the same hints they received. It involves: a light bulb, stars and moon, and a net!

Fourth graders have moved from leaves, understanding warm and cool colors as well as wax resist, to owls. We took our inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh and one of his most famous paintings "Starry Night". As we progress, students will be practicing their blending skills and ability to create texture and form with oil crayon and chalk pastels. |
Having completed their Kandinsky inspiration, fifth graders have started their first sketchbooks. For their covers, students had to start with the words "I Am..." and finish with visual symbol to represent them. We talked about how humans language started our visual and returned, today, to a largely visual language. Keeping up with the language theme, Fifth graders are gaining an understanding on how to fit words within a specific shape as we practice our typography skills. Students pick from their favorite fall associated word and try to blend image with text.
